Cambridgeshire needs its first permanent Hindu Temple — and the decision window closes soon.

For years, Hindu families here have managed without a dedicated temple building. Now, a rare land opportunity in Northstowe is open — and the application window closes at midnight on 23 January 2026.

Bid window closes: 23 Jan 2026 (midnight)

Public support contributes to the council’s weighted scoring.

Why this matters (for every Family)

A temple is not a luxury. It’s a home for faith, culture, and community.

A Hindu temple is where children learn values by seeing them lived — where elders find peace without long travel — and where families celebrate life’s milestones together, in a sacred space that feels like home.

Right now, many local Hindus travel significant distances to worship, or manage ceremonies in living rooms and hired halls — meaningful, but never the same.

Why now

The window is open — and it closes at midnight, 23 January 2026.

South Cambridgeshire District Council’s Faith & Community Land process is time-bound. The bidding window runs from 23 Jan 2025 to midnight 23 Jan 2026, and the successful applicant will be offered a 999-year lease to develop the land.

After bids are assessed, proposals and officer assessments are published, followed by a 6-week public consultation, where community views help inform the final decision — and public support contributes to the weighted scoring.

A temple that serves everyone

A Hindu Temple + Community Centre + STEM Centre — open, welcoming, and built for public benefit.

This project is designed to serve the wider community too: alongside dedicated worship space, we plan shared facilities for learning, wellbeing, youth activities, festivals, and community gatherings. The council’s criteria explicitly requires shared space for community activities open to all, staffed, and made available to other community and faith groups. That’s exactly the spirit we are building with.

Assemble, speak together… let your minds be all of one accord.

Flagship Events

Our community is already active — this temple makes it permanent.

Holi

More than colours — Holi is unity, friendship, and community joy across all backgrounds. A temple enables a safe, organised celebration and strengthens togetherness beyond one day.

Ganesh Chaturthi

A festival where children lead with joy — learning prayers, values, and seva through hands-on participation. A temple makes this learning consistent, welcoming, and rooted in tradition.

Sharad Utsav

A vibrant evening of music, dance, devotion, and togetherness — where generations celebrate culture with pride. A permanent temple gives Sharad Utsav a true home to grow year after year.

Diwali

The festival of light — bringing families, elders, and children together in hope and gratitude. A local temple means Diwali can be celebrated fully, close to home, as a shared community moment.
